I need to know the serial number on a SE 116 outdrive. I can't locate it. Can somebody tell me where to find it?

The serial number is inbetween the upper and lower in the rear most cavity. You will need to seperate the halves.

I tried to separate the unit but I have a hard time in getting them apart. Is there anything I am doing wrong?

Just make sure you have all the bolts removed. There are 2 on each side, one in the front and one at the rear. You need to remove the trim tab anode to get to the rear bolt. If you have all those off, then you might have to tap it with a rubber mallet to get it to pop free.
