  • upper unit repair

I posted this at Iboats forum, but also wanted to post here.
Bought new upper/lower sei 106 in spring 2009, ran 100 hrs put away for winter. Spring 2009 found water had gotten into upper u-joint bellows and caused surface rust and gimble bearing failure. Installed new bellows, new bearing and greased the u-joints. I was hoping all was going to be well.
Ran the outdrive for 25hrs, kept boat in the water for about 7 days.
Pulled outdrive, no water, but I had drive oil in the bellows. So I fixed the water leak, but the rust had caused damage to the seal on the upper unit.
Called sei, gave me a warranty # and sent the upper half in.
SEI repaired the upper unit with new u-joint/shaft assembly, new gears and seals. Only cost to me was shipping from Oregon to Floridea ($65.00). SEI stood behind their fault free warranty. I wish for both our sakes this would not have happened, but the old bellows where not old and I have no clue how a small tear developed which caused the problem.
SEI so far has been great to deal with, good product, stand behind their warranty. I would recommend SEI to anyone.
