  • u joint problems

had a really bad grinding noise coming from drive mostly when turning. Brang it into mechanic to check gimbal bearing and engine alignment, when we took drive off we noticed that the u joints were hitting on the yoke and wearing away metal. this does not seem right. i imagine the u joint should move freeley at all positions. please help. also noticed an extreme amount of metal shavings in oil, about 3 hrs, is this normal

Can you see a spot where the u-joint is rubbing on the yoke? Sometimes the u-joint cap will hit the casting line on the h-yoke. If that is the case, you can send it in and we will take care of it, or you could just clean up the casting line a little bit.

The drive will make quite a bit metal during the 10 hour break in. They will be very small pieces, there should be no chunks.

    Thanks,

I have this same issue on a SE106 with approx 12 hrs on it. Haven't pull drive yet, but curious if anybody else had this issue and what cured the problem.

If a clearance issue, were you able to clean up "casting line" to solve problem.

Other than this, very happy with SE106, runs quiet and cool.
