  • Slipping Mercruiser over 1500 RPM??

I have a 1985 Mercruiser 120HP. When I go over 1500 RPM the outdrive "slips". I can't tell if it's the prop or the coupler. Inspecting the prop doesn't show any indication that the hub is spun. If I put the boat in forward and turn the prop counter clockwise it does stop and I can't turn it. Any ideas or suggestions. I hate to buy a new prop only to find out the coupler is bad. Thanks

It is hard to say without seeing it. Could you possibly borrow a prop to try? Otherwise you could take the prop to a prop shop and have them put a new hub in it.

      It was the Prop Hub

Thanks for your help. It turned out to be the prop hub. Had the prop reconditioned with a new hub and the boat runs great again. Thanks for your help.
