I have a 1989 Maxum 2300 sc cuddy with a 5.0 litre lx 230hp and a alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive. I can't find the gear ratio anywhere on the case. I need to order a new unit from you folks but have no clue what gear ratio to order. I do know the prop is a quicksilver with a 19P. any help?

Your unit should be a 1.50:1 ratio, but since it is older it might have been rebuilt previously. To be sure count the teeth on the upper gears. A 1.50:1 ratio will have 22 and 20 teeth gears. If you do have a 1.50:1 ratio you would need to order our 1.47:1 ratio. This replaces the 1.50:1 due to changes in the lower unit gears. -
breakin period
Ok I ordered the drive today. This is my 1st boat and my 1st new drive. Is there an instruction sheet that will be sent with the unit on how to break it in? If not is there a document posted on here somewhere I can print up on break in procedures?
