  • Shifting

I installed complete new unit Aug. 2005. I did not use the boat at all last year. Bought a pontoon. I have been bugged to get it in this year. I test it in driveway
(with the water muffs on) and it started with prop spinning forward. I have no reverse. I have read the other links and I was wondering if I have to adjust cables?

I almost wanted to take it apart and start over. Or at least drop the bottom half to see if I have it shifted right. I turn it off, shift it forward and test the prop. It does catch. In neutral I get some catch. In reverse I get none.

It sounds like you do need to adjust your shift cable. Follow the directions in your service manual.

I found out that the barrel and two set screws that hold the cable was missing at the other end. And the usual, "how did that happen?" goes through your mind. I'm glad I held off taking it apart again.

Another learning "How does this work", and finding who has the parts.
