  • Water in gear lube

I've had my SE116's for two years but have not put more than about 90 hrs. on them because of engine problems. I finally got the engine problems worked out and ran the boat for about 4 hrs. today. While washing the boat, I noticed milky oil coming from a small hole on the lower unit opposite the fill hole that I never even knew existed until now. When I checked the lube in both drives, they were both milky. I recently changed impellers on both drives after not running them for so long. What could be causing the problem and what should I do first.

If you suddenly have water getting into both drives I would suspect the lower unit seal in the bearing carriers. You might have gotten into some fishing line and damaged the seals. Have the drives pressure tested.
