  • Water in gear lube.

Milky oil came out of my outdrive this fall after replacing my upper unit. How do I source the problem and what are the likely causes? Items I did replace are the oil plug gaskets and oil passage gasket between upper and lower unit.

There are alot of possibilities. If you have a bad U-joint bellows, the water can come in through there. Also it is posible to get some fishing line caught behind the propeller. That can create a leak. Otherwise pretty much any seal in the unit could be the culprit. It is best to pressure test both halves individually to try to track down the leak.
