  • shaft play

Hello, I received the new outdrive and installed last weekend. I noticed when I started up for the first time that there was a slight knocking sound in the lower unit. I stopped and in checking the unit I noticed the prop shaft end play (front to back) moves about 1/8" to 3/16". I started it back up last night and the knocking seems to have settled down a bit but I am concerned about the shaft play with regard to the knocking. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Jeff

There should be end play on the propshaft. That is the way it is designed.

As far as the knocking goes, It may be that the driveshaft did not push up all the way when you first started it. Once you put a load on it the driveshaft will be pushed up to its proper location.

Put it in the water and try it out. If you have anymore questions or concerns let us know.
