Hi, I just completed replacing an upper unit se116 1.47 ratio outboard yesterday. The issue I am having is I have forward and neutral but no reverse. Any suggestions? When shifting to reverse, the unit stays in neutral.

Did you replace just the upper half, or the upper and lower? My first thought would be to make sure the shift slide and roller are in the correct spot. That is the part sticking out of the bell housing when the upper is off the boat.

I just replaced the upper ....Last year I replaced the lower. the lower is fine , has been tested. I am going to check your suggestion, Forward and neutral go in no problem, when I take the shifter and try to put in reverse it is real tight and the drive remains in neutral.Comment
