  • cam driven raw water pump

hi everyone, going to change to a cam driven raw water pump
the pump in my se106 keeps going out, and not when i'am in
the water it's when the boat sits, the first one i burned (no water)
the second one looked like the impeller stripped and would not turn
with the drive shaft and the third i put in 2 months ago and it burned
i had the ear muffs on and water was on before i started it.
just wanted to know what needs to be done inside the drive
i know i need to take out the impeller and key and water restricter
and leave the water pump housing and tub anything else?

    pump

Impellers dont get damaged from sitting.must be some other cause .
too little flow from a hose, over-reving on a hose, etc.A drive shower may have to be added to help cool the drive if you remove the pump.

hi, i checked the hose from the transom to thermostat housing
i blew thew it and water came out of it, and i checked for any
kinks in the hose's and found nothing, because that was my first
though some kind of water restriction. as for over reving on a hose
      what do you mean ?

Your household water hose will not supply enough water if you a revving the engine up over 1500 RPM or so.

i only had it at idle and it burned,my brother has a
volvo penta setup and he has a crank/cam driven
water pump he's started his up a few times without
water and his pump has never burned and he's only
change his impeller once in five years?
