  • Old boats and old men

I bought an old 1988 Stingray with trailer at a very interesting price. I know, A Low price? Of course there was a reason. The lower unit of the alpha one needed a new prop and the forward gear had a few teeth missing. After I got bids from some local marinas and compared their rebuild price of the SEI’s new lower unit price with a three year warranty…. The choice was easy. I ordered a SE106 and it was in my garage in two days.
I admit to being a neophyte when it comes to boats and their propulsion systems. But the local Marina’s labor cost, $75.00 Per hour made another easy decision…. I decided to try it myself. I read the manual and followed the instructions to the letter. With two and one half hours labor plus a few breaks I had the old lower unit off and the new one installed. The installation was easy. Plus I estimate about a $187.50 savings. I now have SEI’s three year warranty, and bragging rights to impress all my friends. What could be better than that?
