  • Shifting problems after install

I purchased a SE109 lower unit for my OMC Cobra. After I bolted all together and put it on the boat I tested the shifting. When I put drive into reverse and spin the prop by hand it is lock in both directions. When I put the drive into forward the prop only locks 1 direction (reverse direction) free spins in the forward direction and it should lock in both directions.

the shifter rod was rotated 180 degrees out of phase when i pulled it out of the box. other people are telling me that the shift rods on the units they have ordered from SEI are not set correctly, that is should be 7 13/64" and I need to pull the unit off and adjust it to that. Not gonna lie, I'm going to be extremely pissed if I have to pull this back off to adjust something that should have came set correctly. Even more so if I have to drain the oil and split the case to set it.

here is what I'm using to adjust the cables

its 110F out day and I'm getting sick of messing with the shift cables and it's still not shifting correctly

for some reason my other thread is not showing up in this section either....

I'm not sure what happened to your other thread. It was visible and I replied to it. Did you see the response regarding the speedo pick up?

As far as the shifter, we do set them at the factory. We have sold over 450 of those I and have not heard of that before. If it is off, I do apologize. If your going by the book and its not working, then I think you will need to check it.

You can call tomorrow and ask for Rob, he is a little more knowledgable on the cobra drives.
