  • Mercruiser alpha I Gen II oil leak

I have a 1996 bayliner 2452 ciera, just replaced the shift shaft seal put it back together started and ran for 15 minutes no sign of leaking. I let set over night with drip pan under lower unit, next day about a teaspoon of oil in pan. Dropped the lower unit AGAIN shift seal is good but now it seems to be coming from the in between hole (Upper and Lower Unit).....Can anyone look at the hole on the top of the lower unit and tell me if it looks normal. Seems like one side is missing part of ledge the seal should sit on...?

It appears that part of the hole is missing.

Try using a weatherstrip adhesive to glue the seal down.

Let it sit for 24 hours before installing it so it can dry and then fill it with gear lube and see if that fixes the leak.
