New Lower Unit Looks Good

I was going to go for an outing a couple of weeks ago and I noticed a hairline crack along the lower unit of my Johnson 150 HP OB. I went to my local marine shop (Mastertech Marine Service-Cary, NC). I found out that apparently I had water in the lower unit and it froze over the winter. I could pay over $1,400 for a unit from Johnson with a 1 year warranty or an SEI unit for under $800 with a 3 year warranty. HMMM I wonder what I should do. It was a no brainer. I purchased the SEI 306.1 unit and my mechanic had no problem at all installing it. I am now on the lake and following the break in guidelines. I look forward to many years of enjoyment with the unit. Hopefully I won't need to use the warranty but it sure gives one peace of mind to know it is there.
