The instruction manual says to bypass the ESA system. When I did this it caused my motor to die completely. After putting a lot of thought into it I just can not see how the system could stall the engine at the appropriate time when you shift and not at other times. With all of the sensors removed I can't figure out how it would be possible. I am not sure how Mercury does it, I am only familiar with the OMC system. At present I am buying parts to reinstall my ESA.
1. Can you explain how the engine would be stalled only when shifting when the ESA is bypassed as described in the instruction manual?
2. Would I be better off stalling the engine the way Merc does it instead of the way OMC does it? If so, can you explain that system or direct me to another source that has a schematic or explanation?
Thanks, Brant.
