  • Lower unit drive shaft rotation or lack of

Just started to put my upper and lower uint together and noticed that I cannot rotate the drive shaft on the lower unit by hand. It doesnt matter where the shifter is located. I can rotate the prop shaft by hand in neutral but when I put it into gear and rotate the prop shaft it pushes itself out of gear. Ideas? This is my first drive swap

The lower unit has an impeller in it, so it will not rotate easily. If you put a prop on it, and then put the shifter in forward you can turn the unit by rotating the prop counter clockwise. Technically you will be turning the impeller backwards, so just turn it a 1/16 of a turn if you want to verify that it does turn. Alternatively, if you grab the driveshaft with both hands and rotate it clockwise, you should be able to get it to go.
