  • 106 1:47 to 1:94

I have a very low hour 106 off a 305 888 with the 1:47 ratio. I need to put it on a 120 hp 4 cylinder of the same year. Would it be best to change the gears or prop? thanks

Definately the gears, or just buy a new upper. You wouldn't be able to prop a 1.47 ratio with a 3.0L engine. The ratio you should have is a 1.94.

    Thanks,

Justin, I am going to go with the gear change. Are there shims involved with this procedure or is it a straight change of gears? Thanks.

There are definately shims involved, and you need special shimming tools and a retainer wrench.
Here are the OE part numbers for the tools.
        91-17256
        91-60526T
        91-60523

You will also need a 0-30 In. LB dial torque wrench like this: http://www1.mscdirect.com/cgi/NNSRIT2?PMAKA=07450752&PMPXNO=6161050&cm_re=ItemDe tail-_-ResultListing-_-SearchResults

That is about 400-500 dollars in tools, plus you need the gears and at least one bearing.
