  • Water in lower unit

I have a Stern Drive 106 complete out drive. I purchased in 2007? I have less than 100 hours on the unit. It started getting water into the lower unit. With fresh oil and after about 3 or 4 hours in the water, there is water in the oil. If I let the unit set a couple of days, I get oil pushing out of the prop drive seal, like it's under pressure. This is how I found out I was getting water in the lower unit. Last year I ordered a seal kit for the lower unit from SEI and replaced all the seals, including water pump impeller and seals. The seals I took out looked perfect! It didn't resolve the problem. Any Ideas??

Alot of time you get water in the drive because of a bad u-joint bellows. The seal up there designed to keep the oil in, but not to keep water out. I would suggest pulling the drive and checking the bellows. Also if you have some way to pressure check the drive, that may point to a bad seal somewhere.
