An 89 5.0L could be a 1.62 if it is a 2 barrel carb. If it is a 4 barrel carb then it is most likely a 1.50 and then it will work fine. If it was a 1.62, by putting a 1.5 on it, you will need to put a smaller prop on to compensate.
