  • Gear ratio help...please

Hi there I am in the midd the middle of fitting a 2.8 nissan turbo diesel in a Sealine 195, I have used an alpha 1 leg and T sheild that had a Mercruiser 5.7 Chevy attached to it, I had taken out of a customers boat that had sever water damage.

The question is what gear ratio will be best suited to this engine, being a Diesel and all that.

I know that it sounds a little mad not to use a 5.7 but with the price of fuel and all that ( some places it is £1.20 a litre now here in the UK, )

    Many thanks in advance

I think the best thing to do would be match up the ratio based on the peak torque of your engine. A 2.8 turbo diesel is probably putting out as much torque as the 5.7L gas engine, so you might be okay with the original 1.50 ratio.

I was hoping that you would say that, I had a quick count of the teath in the top housing and it has the 20/22 set in there.

I am looking forward to getting it in the water now, only got the fuelines to make now.

If I need any parts will you ship to the UK?

      Many thanks
