  • SE106 Compatibility

I have purchased a SE106 lower unit. I am looking at replacing my old lower unit with a cracked housing with this new one. The upper unit is still good. When I pulled the old unit apart I noticed the shaft looks different. The old unit has what is called a pre loaded pin, I have done rough measurements on the shaft and the splines all line up. It seems like I can put these 2 units together however I am unsure of the function of this pin so I do not know if I will damage the drive should I use this SE106 without the preloaded pin.

Does anyone know the function of this pin and am I able to use the SE106 lower with my mecruiser upper unit?

The preload pin was to push the drive shaft down into the bearing cup. The lower was redesigned with the cup flipped over to let the shaft raise up into it. This is the natural tendency of the shaft when under load. You can use our lower with no problems.
