Cir Clip came off universal

After putting the SE 106 into use, within the first hour of operation I found it making a lot of noise. It was hard to steer. I had to have it towed in, drag my trailer 110 miles to the boat and haul it to the marine repair person. When he removed the foot he found the cir clip had come off the universal and the rubber boot was shot. I have spent over $500 for this repair including the tow cost since the boat was at the marina and the gas to get the trailer. Please tell who ever assembles your universals to make sure the cir clip is shoved home !!!! Don
