  • Gear Ratio

I am in need of replacing my out drive on my 1983 Sea Ray. I have the 5.0 L 228 HP 305 engine. I was told that the 1.47 ratio is recomended, but I will lose rpm and speed form my broken 1.50 ratio. Is this true? and if so is that the only drive that will work on this boat?

You will lose at most 25-50 rpm. I doubt you will notice the difference. You cannot purchase a 1.50. All manufacturers have switched to the 1.47 including the OE.

What is the 1.62 used for? is that better or worse or won't even work for my situation?

It is best to stay with the original ratio your boat came with. Manufacturers take into account hull design, weight and motor size in choosing the ratio to use in each application.
