This is my personal opinion
Sounds more like you busted a U joint ,Full down to normal trim limit "UP" has no brearing on the assembly. Was wet at one point, rusted, and then broke apart or was never serviced properly.Anyhow, most failures caused by water intrusion are normally not covered, (starter, alt, trim pumps, etc.) because if water was not there, the resulting damage would not have happened.

no sign of water intrusion bilge pumps would have kicked on
boat is a 1987 searay seville the trim sensor was bad just bought boat so took for another test run on local lake when bought boat we put on water and ran great no leaks and only had 20 hrs on outdrive and put in buy a mechanic after shaft bilge pumps were kiching on .when this happened was in turn full throttle then tink tink tink.but was loading it up but never should of failed like that this is my first inboard. but i have a good knowledge of boats been boating for a long time i dont think the trim would do that. thinking on ordering another outdrive.but i think just a upper gear case would do.

Call us with the SEI serial number and we will look up the purchase date to see if it is under warranty. To find the serial number you need to seperate the two halves and look at the rear most cavities for a metal plate. Our warranty is fault free, so even if water got in there from a bad bellows we would cover it.
