  • no reverse and some specs needed

I have twins 5.7S in my 29 fountain today i lost reverse on the right hand drive. The shifter wouldnt move to rev so i pulled the drive and dissasembled it to find the bearing in reverse gear has pushed out of the gear.Mercury did have this problem before, my question is can i just locktight the bearing and press it back in or do you have another fix for this?

Also are all your torque specs the same as merc? The pinion nut wasnt as tight as a merc but the bearing carrier seemed to be the same.

Aslo both drives have alot of white flaking on them and look ten years old but they are only a year old, why?

I know they are warrentied but i need the boat for the weekend and i am a marine tech.

You can locktite the bearing in, or if there is a groove on the ID of the gear, then a C clip could be installed that will keep it from moving out.
We do use the same torque specs, 60-80 ft lbs on the pinion nut and 200 on the retainer.
I am not sure what you mean by the white flaking. if you mean the upper has alot of white deposits it is usually because you run on plane alot and the deposits are from the salt water that is hitting the hot upper unit. If you do run a plane often, drive showers would be recommended.
