i have a prealpha sterndrive lower unit went bad i purchased an alpha 1 lower unit bolted it on per tech instructions goes in and out of gear both forward and reverse. works fine as long as unit is tilted up. when lowered unit kicks out of gear and then only works in reverse. Raise the unit back up forward drive works fine. Any help on what could be wrong is greatly appreciated.

By tilting it up, you would be pulling on the cable, so possible the cable is stretched?
Did you adjust the shift yet?

no i have not made any adjustments. do you need to when replacing the lower unit? everything was fine with the shifting before the new lower was installed.Comment
