I'm purchasing a new lower unit for a 1998 200hp Yamaha. I realize it's shipped without gear oil. Should the first fill of oil be a lighter break-in oil or use a conventional gear case oil ?
Im not an SEI employee, but heres my two cents...use the cheaper version of normal lower unit oil first, Jeff, because youll be tossing it after break in, then I like to use a synthetic higher end lube, for longevity and water solubility resistance in case water ever gets in the gearcase.
